Phoenixville, PA – Phoenix American Motorsports will race in this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge Replay XD Roar by the Shore on the streets of Long Beach with Preston Calvert piloting the No. 77 Calvert Dynamics and Phoenix Performance sponsored Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry.

Calvert comes into the event on America's most famous street circuit fourth in GT Cup points off his two best finishes of the season, both coming in March on the streets of St. Petersburg.

“After having raced at St. Petersburg, I have a little feel for the special aspects of driving on street race tracks,” said Calvert. “The biggest challenge is to drive at the limit, using the entire track, and not to think about the walls that define the track boundary. This takes a while to achieve, and requires a disciplined approach to thinking of the walls as the edges of the track as usual, not something special that will inflict a higher penalty if the track edge is crossed.

Return to Phoenix in the News

“After St. Petersburg, I expect that the biggest challenge at Long Beach will be the now familiar task of learning a new track, not so much getting used to the fact that it is a street circuit,” Calvert continued.

It marks the fifth round of the 2015 GT Cup schedule, and Long Beach offers competitors a tight and picturesque 11-turn street course measuring 1.968 miles. The season has been hyperactive thus far, with rain in the mix for the season opener at the Circuit of the Americas followed by a number of incidents happening directly in front of Calvert in St. Petersburg.

The field is at its limit for Long Beach, with 40 cars ready to go when the lights go out on Sunday afternoon for Pirelli World Challenge’s trademark standing start.

Calvert is among nine entries in the GT Cup class just for Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. He scored fifth and fourth place finishes in St. Petersburg, meaning any improvement will result in his first podium of the season.
