Challenge Practice at Barber


Birmingham, AL. – Mar. 29, 2012


– Subaru and Kia earned GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge bragging rights at the end of two Thursday practice sessions in preparation for Saturday's Barber 200.


Andrew Aquilante drove the No. 35 Subaru of America Subaru WRX-STI to a best lap at 85.345 mph (1:37.017) to lead a mammoth field of Grand Sport (GS) cars in the second of two practice sessions. Second in GS was Scott Maxwell in the No. 55 Aston Martin Racing/Multimatic Aston Martin Vantage at 84.859 mph (1:37.573), followed by Bryan Sellers in the No. 46 BCKSTGR/Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3 at 84.816 mph (1:37.622).


Jack Roush Jr. led the first CTSCC session of the afternoon at 84.871 mph (1:37.559) in the No. 61 Roush Performance Products Ford Mustang Boss 302R.


Nic Jonsson was quickest in Street Tuner (ST) at 81.337 mph (1:41.798) in the No. 10 Kia Motors America/Infinity Audio/Rocky Tools Kia Forte Koup. Jonsson and co-driver Andy Lally are looking to return to victory lane at Barber Motorsports Park again this weekend after Jonsson teamed with Michael Galati to give Kia  -- with a manufacturing facility in nearby West Point, Ga. - its first victory last year.


Second in combined ST practice was Owen Trinkler in the No. 197 Cruise America/Casetech Honda Civic Si at 81.116 mph (1:42.275). Driving the No. 81 Johnstone Supply/unitedBMWonline/Powerflex/Escort/CRC BMW 328i, Gregory Liefooghe led the first session of ST practice at 81.030 mph (1:42.184), which held up as the third-fastest class speed of the day.


Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge qualifying starts at 10:50 a.m. (ET) on Friday. Saturday's race starts at 5 p.m. (ET) and will be televised on SPEED at 12:00 Noon (ET) on April 8.
